About Us

Hi. I’m Sam.

People who know me would say I’m outgoing.

In reality, I’m an introvert stuck in the former body of a social butterfly.

(Confusing, I know.)

I probably have a clinical anxiety disorder among other things,

and I’m trying to find peace in the midst of it all.

I like to write.

It’s kind of a therapeutic outlet.

That, and running.

Sometimes life calls for a good run

so I’ve birthed in me a love of running over the past few years.

I love people,

No matter who I become I really just want to love people well.

And I love Jesus –

the same Jesus who loved the least of his society and shunned power, the same Jesus who challenged religion. That Jesus.

His spirit has brought joy into the broken places,

and hope into places where there is no light.

He has truly not forsaken me even when I have forsaken myself.

I hope you can join me in these writings

wherever you find yourself

the truth is

we’re all just doing the best we can,

and we need each other.

. . .

This is my hubby, Bear.

If you know him, you probably already think he’s a great human being.

If you don’t know him, I hope you can enjoy him through his writing.

He’s a quiet and contemplative guy,

but he has a heart the size of Brazil,

and I feel all too blessed that I get to do life with him.

(And I’m super glad he’s started writing with me

over the past few months!)

. . .

Bear and I have been married since 2011. We were one of those crazy couples that didn’t date first. We just kind of met, knew, and married four months later. And then we lived happily ever after…

Marriage is worth it, but there are hard seasons.

Since we met we’ve been on some crazy adventures – some exciting and beautiful, some tragic. And here we are: just another married couple trying to not just get through this thing called life but really experience it.

We live pretty normal lives.

We enjoy biking together.

Sometimes in the rain.

I’m a hair stylist.

I’ve met some super talented women in my career and have built lovely relationships through my clientele.

Bear is a web developer.

He works for a small company that has a heart for helping people.

Together we’ve done a lot of pretty normal things:

Adopted and raised an awesome shepherd pup.

Bought a house in Colorado.

Accumulated crap we don’t need.

Remodeled the house.

Had backyard chickens,

a green house,

a garden.

Had a garage sale or two.

Ordered Chinese food every “Christmas.”

Hosted a few exchange students (now our “adopted daughters”.)

Attended all of the midnight releases for Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit.

Defeated bed bugs.

Adopted the cutest kitten in the whole wide world.

Fostered a couple (amazing!) kiddos.

Went on some great trips.

Had some different families live with us.

Opened the door -unknowingly – for a Kirby salesman…

and freaking bought the Kirby.

Binged watched The Walking Dead.

Went on long Sunday afternoon drives, to dream about a homestead.

Sold both vehicles and lived off of public transportation.

Had bonfires and s’mores in the driveway every year for trick-or-treaters.

We’ve done lots of exploring,

met some amazing people,

taken lots of pictures,

written down memories,

argued a lot,

learned a lot,

cried a lot,

and laughed a lot…

And we recently uprooted ourselves to a small little spot in South America to love on a children’s home.

. . . . .

Let’s let this be a place where we can

share experiences and grow together!

Adventure awaits.
