Whole30 Vegan-style: Day 5

Dear fellow vegans and vegetarians,

I ate bison today.

It was thoroughly considered, this decision of mine.

I am iron-anemic and have hypoglycemia, and today I was so exhausted. Basically from breakfast until well after my lunch, I have been so tired. Not to mention, I’ve been doing so well at the Whole30 with fruits and vegetables that’d I’ve only been averaging between 700 and 900 calories a day.

This is not good.

The one thing I can eat on this diet to aid both of my issues is meat, so I did it.

Typically I can’t even chew meat because I think about it too much, and I get this gag reflex.

But today I was so tired and so depleted of energy that I didn’t think about it. I just ate it, and the consensus is… that steak was GOOD!

So, as usual, my meals for the day:

Breakfast: an apple pie larabar

Lunch: sweet potato puree left over from last night, a bag of organic frozen green beans, and a gigantic salad consisting of mixed greens, tomatoes, red onion, hot peppers, avocado and a basic (and Whole30-friendly) homemade dressing

Dinner: a beautiful slab of bison, a half of a sweet potato with a dash of cinnamon on top, about two cups of green roasted veggies (brussel sprouts, broccoli and green beans) with DoTerra’s Lemon essential oil in a can of sparkling water. Just two drops, and it was citrus bliss!

(P.S. I received my cleanse and restore kit in the mail this evening, and I’m stoked. I started pumping their vitamins and probiotics tonight. Looking forward to seeing where they help take my body in the next month.)

Dessert: this cereal Awesome told me about consisting of coconut flakes, some cashews, sliced banana and almond milk… totally hit the spot. Can’t wait to incorporate this into future breakfasts! Oh, and I had a grapefruit.

Let’s see…

So far, my parents are doing well. They’ve done this before and seem to be going strong yet again!

Red is doing well. What impresses me most is that she apparently hadn’t done much cooking prior to this cleanse, and she is immersing herself (without overwhelming herself) into a world of clean cooking. I’d say that’s a good way to ease your way into cooking! Nice and healthy.

Awesome is doing… awesome. We spent last night talking about how we wanted cookies and doughnuts. Ha. But, at least we can be available for each other in these times of agony. =P

And I may have a new companion for the journey who will be only a few days behind us. I’ll introduce him after his official Day 1 begins!

We can’t be alone in our journeys, especially if they are struggles of the mind, so I’m glad to have partners in crime to tackle this cleanse. I look forward to comparing our Day 1’s to our Day 30’s to compare the changes our bodies will have hopefully made by then.

    Day 3 down for us…. Dad and I are on steak taco salads kicks no cheese no beans of course

      Are you eating them in lettuce or something for the shell?
